Explore the themes behind this year’s Biennial with an afternoon of discussions from BPB16 commissioned photographers and curators:
The Dandy Lion Project curator, Shantrelle P Lewis talks with Gentlemen of Bacongo photographer and author of Fashion Tribes Daniele Tamagni and discusses the evolution of style, identity and race politics. Convenor: Prof Paul Goodwin
Magnum photographer Olivia Arthur and Bharat Sikka talk about their Brighton Photo Biennial collaboration Reimagine focussing on LGBTQ+ communities in Mumbai and Brighton & Hove, cities with sharply contrasting attitudes to gender and sexuality. Prof Kath Browne speaks about her research on social justice and inequalities, specifically around gender and sexuality. Convenor: Joanna Lowry
Kick over the statues photographer Ewen Spencer shares his visual and music inspiration with We Folk photography agency director Olivia Gideon Thomson. Ewen discusses his Brighton Photo Biennial commission and the spontaneous images of youth and music culture that have kept him in demand with style magazines, global brands and the music industry for more than 20 years.
