Magdalene Keaney is a curator and writer who works with photography.
She has written widely on photography including for Acne Paper, American Photo, Aperture, British Journal of Photography, Chinese Vogue, Exit, Portfolio, Photofile and ShowStudio. Contributions to museum exhibition catalogues include ‘Stephen Jones & the Accent of Fashion’ (MoMu 2009), ‘Yohji Yamamoto’ (V&A 2010), ‘British Ballgowns’ (V&A 2012) and ‘Yamamoto & Yohji'(Rizzoli, 2014).Her most recent book ‘Fashion Photography Next’ was published by Thames and Hudson in 2014. The book was launched with the exhibition DON’T STOP NOW: FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY NEXT at Foam photomuseum in Amsterdam in 2014 and at the Fashion Space Gallery, London College of Fashion in 2015.
Keaney was Associate Curator of Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery, London, where she curated ‘Irving Penn Portraits’ (2010). She was the inaugural curator and creative director of the Fashion Space Gallery at London College of Fashion. She is currently Senior Curator of Photographs at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra and is completing her PhD at the Australian National University researching studio photography.raphs at the National Portrait Gallery, London, where she curated Irving Penn Portraits (2010) and was the author of the catalogue accompanying the exhibition.
